Fife and Pfeiffer

On the final day of my six-day solo kayak journey, as I made my way back to Telegraph Cove, I encountered something extraordinary: Northern Resident Killer Whale A60, affectionately known as Fife. This rare meeting was serendipitously documented by a nearby whale watching vessel, whose crew generously shared their footage with me, preserving a remarkable moment of connection between human and wild.

A60, at just three years my junior, symbolized a shared passage into adulthood, a poignant reminder of life’s parallel journeys across species. Our encounter highlighted not only the majesty of these orcas but also the quiet, profound bonds that can form between the natural world and those who venture into it alone. This experience remains a testament to the unexpected gifts found in solitude and the freedom of exploration.
